Review:
The Guilty Couple is a psychological fiction tale from Bristol based author C.L. Taylor. An act of ultimate betrayal, broken trust, trying circumstances and redemption defines this 2022 publication from C.L. Taylor.
Meet Olivia Sutherland, over five years ago Olivia was placed at the centre of a murder plot, which saw this innocent woman charged and incarcerated. After serving time for this wrongful charge, Olivia intends to restore her name, regain custody of her daughter and ensure that her husband is convicted. Now she is free from jail, Olivia is hell bent on achieving all three of these goals. But Olivia’s husband is an unstoppable force and Oliva must consider the cost of her act of revenge. Olivia’s husband is dangerous and if she puts a foot wrong, she may not survive.
I am a big fan of C.L. Taylor, after I devoured Her Last Holiday in 2021. The Guilty Couple has been on my TBR pile for far too long. I am glad I plucked this one off shelf as it was a brilliant read from cover to cover.
The Guilty Couple is relayed from three different standpoints, which ensures that we receive alternative impressions of the exciting events of this tale. Olivia, Dominic and Dani fill our heads with all sorts of suspect shenanigans in Taylor’s latest . We never know who is telling the truth and who we can ultimately place our trust in completely. I love these kinds of novels! Olivia won me over and I enjoyed reading about her wrongful conviction, prison time and release. Oliva’s bid for freedom and her attempts to clear her name were my favourite areas of The Guilty Couple. I also found I was engrossed in the episodes featuring Olivia and her estranged daughter.
In true C.L. Taylor style we have a short and sharp chapter format in The Guilty Couple. There are twists here and there, all timed to a relentlessly paced plot. I definitely felt the adrenaline pumping while reading this one. The Guilty Couple proved to be a quick but mind bending read, with a strong line of suspense. Entertaining and exciting, I was happy to give up my weekend to stay in the company of these characters, even though they were unlikeable. A whirlwind race to the end, The Guilty Couple ends on quite a high note.
C.L. Taylor serves up a juicy domestic noir of dark spousal revenge in The Guilty Couple. I highly recommend this one!
