TWO MISSING WOMEN. ONE WITNESS. SO MANY LIES . . . The brand-new thriller by the number-one bestselling and award-winning master of crime

Twenty years ago, Cyrus Haven’s family was murdered. Only he and his brother survived. Cyrus because he hid. Elias because he was the killer.

Now Elias is being released from a secure psychiatric hospital and Cyrus, a forensic psychologist, must decide if he can forgive the man who destroyed his childhood.

As he prepares for the homecoming, Cyrus is called to a crime scene in Nottingham. A man is dead and his daughter Maya is missing. Then a second woman is abducted . . . The only witness is Evie Cormac, a troubled teenager with an incredible gift: she can tell when you are lying.

Both missing women have dark secrets that Cyrus must unravel to find them – and he and Evie know better than anybody how the past can come back to haunt you . . .

This breathtaking new thriller from the #1 bestselling author will keep you guessing until the very end.

Michael Robotham is the two-time recipient of the prestigious Gold Dagger Award. With a slew of bestselling crime novels to his name, Robotham returns with a new Cyrus Haven release. Lying Beside You is a story filled with murder, trauma, lies, forgiveness, guilt, honour and decisive action, Lying Beside You is another superior release from the king of crime fiction.

Lying Beside You is a crime fiction tale that expertly pulls together the past and present. Michael Robotham’s enigmatic lead character from Good Girl, Bad Girl and When She was Good returns to face the demons of his past. Two decades ago Cyrus was hit by the tragic murder of his family. With Cyrus and his brother the only survivors of this horrendous murder, it was revealed that Elias was the killer. Twenty years on, Cyrus is now faced with prospect of seeing his brother released into society from his stint at a psychiatric facility. Cyrus is weighed down by his moral conscience and his innate duty to protect society from his brother’s actions. While grappling with this personal life issue Cyrus becomes wrapped up in a crime case that involves a missing girl, an abducted woman and a dead father. Drawing on the assistance of troubled teen Evie Cormac, Cyrus must work to solve this complex case and resolve his personal life issues.

Michael Robotham is undoubtedly one of our country’s brightest stars in the crime fiction field. Lying Beside You is a book that has been eagerly anticipated by fans far and wide. I have enjoyed plenty of books written by Michael Robotham, which includes the Cyrus Haven series and his standalone work. I was eager to read Lying Beside You as I do love the usual pairing of Evie Cormac and Cyrus Haven. I am pleased to report that Lying Beside You was another dynamic read from Michael Robotham.

A fair amount of air time in Lying Beside You is devoted to Cyrus Haven’s past family trauma. I was hooked on this part of the story, as although it was deeply tragic, it was also fascinating. Robotham places emphasis on trust, remorse, retribution, forgiveness, rehabilitation, acceptance and education in this area of his novel. I appreciated the strong focus on mental disorders, medication, treatment, incarceration and release issues via the character of Elias. Cyrus is placed under a great deal of emotional pressure in these sequences of the novel. It was interesting to see Cyrus grapple with his loyalty as a sibling versus his training as a forensic investigator in relation to his brother’s release case.  Alongside this personal focus on Cyrus is the presence of Evie Cormac, a familiar character who plays a significant role in our lead’s life and crime case investigations. I do love this unique relationship dynamic and Robotham does a great job with the interplay between these primary characters.

In terms of the crime aspect, Robotham is in his element with this area of Lying Beside You. The central plotline encompasses a murder, an abduction and a missing persons case, which puts a great amount of pressure on the reader to stay tuned in. There are some fantastic police procedural scenes, which really emphasises Robotham’s star power in the crime fiction field. Expect to pushed, pulled, twisted and manipulated as the mystery elements of this tale unfold in spectacular detail. Robotham certainly keeps his readers guessing and his cast are placed in difficult binds both personally and professionally as Lying Beside You races to a dramatic conclusion.

Lying Beside You is written by one of the best in business, it was a great read from start to finish.
