Review:

Gillian McAllister is a Sunday Times bestselling author. With six successful novels to her name, this crime thriller specialist returns with a time travel inspired piece. Startling, moving, surprising and unpredictable, Wrong Place, Wrong Time offers an exercise of the mind for those who select this tale.

A story where the past, present and future all collide in a prism of unexpected eventualities, Wrong Place, Wrong Time concentrates on the life of a mother named Jen. When Jen witnesses her son Toby kill a man, she knows that her son’s future is no more. As Jen tries to accept her son’s terrible fate, she wakes up from the horror of the night before to see that time has brought this mother back to the day before this horrible mess began. Then as each new day begins, Jen is hurtled back in time to the days, weeks, months and years before this terrible event. Can Jen find the vital clue to save her son?

British author Gillian McAllister is the popular podcast co-host of Honest Authors and she returns with a brand-new crime fiction thriller with a difference. This new tale from McAllister introduces an element of time travel to a standard crime novel. Wrong Place, Wrong Time was a very unique read. I appreciated the author’s creative direction with this title.

I will need to be completely honest and say that I am not a time travel fan at all. I will go out of my way to avoid this genre as much as possible, so I’m not quite sure why I took a chance on Wrong Place, Wrong Time. I enjoyed a number of elements of this story and although I didn’t love this title enough to award it my full five-star rating, it was a very good example of an alternative crime fiction piece. Surprising, imaginative, intricate and sharp, Gillian McAllister has crafted a perplexing tale. Tight plotting, a relentless storyline, plausible characters and a healthy dose of the unknown helps to shape this novel’s final form. Set to a fast pace with a robust main character arc, Wrong Place, Wrong Time races to a tidy conclusion.

I’m glad I took a risk on Wrong Place, Wrong Time, Gillian McAllister’s latest proved to be a puzzling and rewarding alternative crime fiction read.
