The New York Times bestselling authors of The Unhoneymooners present a charming, laugh-out-loud novel filled with adventure, treasure, and, of course, love.

Lily has never forgotten the man that got away . . . but she certainly hasn’t forgiven him either!

As the daughter of a notorious treasure hunter, Lily makes ends meet using her father’s coveted hand-drawn maps, guiding tourists on fake treasure hunts through the canyons of Utah. When the man she once loved walks back into her life with a motley crew of friends, ready to hit the trails, Lily can’t believe her eyes. Frankly, she’d like to take him out into the wilderness – and leave him there.

Leo wants nothing more than to reconnect with his first and only love. Unfortunately, Lily is all business: it’s never going to happen. But when the trip goes horribly and hilariously wrong, the group wonders if maybe the legend of the hidden treasure wasn’t a gimmick after all. Alone under the stars in the isolated and dangerous mazes of the Canyonlands, Leo and Lily must decide whether they’ll risk their lives, and their hearts, on the adventure of a lifetime . . .

Billed as a great new summer romance from New York Times bestselling author Christina Lauren, Something Wilder proved to be a fun winter warmer. An action-packed, high-octane mystery adventure tale with a side serving of second chance love is on the menu in Christina Lauren’s latest.

Following Lily, the daughter of a renowned treasure hunter, this young woman is thrust into a perplexing puzzle through Utah in the latest modern romance title from Christian Lauren. A free and easy read from cover to cover, Something Wilder is the hotly anticipated new release from the combined penmanship of Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, also known as Christina Lauren in the publishing world. With many bestselling romance titles under their belt, these writing besties have become a prominent fixture on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. This is my first Christina Lauren title and I had quite high expectations going into this one. I did find it all a bit fun and very tongue in cheek.

Something Wilder reminded me a little of a couple of movies I’ve loved such as Fools Gold and City Slickers, with a distinct line of romance thrown in for good measure. I liked learning more about the lead’s background, her family history and her mistakes in love. Lily was an independent spirit with a strong personality to match. I’m not sure if I completely clicked with her, but I can see that Lily will appeal to many readers. The male lead of the tale is quite a gentle modern hero and I did find Leo very appealing. It was a shame Lily and Leo’s previous attempt at love didn’t flourish. Lauren explores issues of miscommunication, misunderstanding, personal gripes, love angst and baggage in this relationship dynamic. The journey from past lovers, to enemies and eventually lovers again was handled well by the experienced hand of Christina Lauren. I’m confident that this novel will sit well with rom com fans.

A word in regards to the setting before I close of this review. I haven’t been to US, but the southern Utah based backdrop featured in this novel’s locale made it very appealing. The desert wilds and the large open spaces of this location spoke to me and I think it was a cracking setting choice for a novel of this nature to play out. The location base had all the feels in my eyes and it was very well described by Lauren. I did appreciate a number of elements of Something Wilder, but overall, I think it may have been a little ill matched to my usual reading preferences.

Zany, enterprising, whimsical, light hearted and romantic, Something Wilder is a great read for fans of modern romance titles.
