Would you know your forever house if you found it?

Hunter’s Moon is the ultimate ‘forever’ house. Nestled by a river in the Peasebrook valley, it has been the Willoughbys’ home for over fifty years, and now estate agent Belinda Baxter is determined to find the perfect family to live there. But the sale of the house unlocks decades of family secrets – and brings Belinda face to face with her own troubled past. . .

Mrs R’s review:

I have been a fan of Veronica Henry’s from her first book, Honeycote. While some of her later books weren’t as good as I had come to expect, her latest, The Forever House, is her best yet. Warm and utterly engaging just like the cover, The Forever House follows the journey of Belinda. Belinda is a single, 30 something real estate agent intent on finding the perfect new owners for Hunter’s Moon. As I read, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this was also Sally’s story. Sally and her husband, Alexander, are the elderly owners of this special house who have been hit with the devastating news that Alexander has motor neuron disease. They have yet to tell their two children this news or of their decision to downsize. I really enjoyed switching between the two characters because it allowed me to get to know both women intimately. Belinda is a workaholic who goes above and beyond the call of duty for her clients. She is dealing with her own demons that I didn’t see coming and has to make some tough, moral choices. It’s Sally’s portrayal though that is definitely my favorite. For her, it all began in 1967 when she first meets Alexander drunk by the curbside. How she came to be a part of the family and owner of Hunter’s Moon makes for a crazy, unexpected life. Part of this crazy, unexpected life is Veronica’s honest portrayal of marriage and family. She shows it in all its messy and complicated glory without reverting to easy answers. This is a must read for fans of Veronica Henry or those looking for something a little more in depth than the usual chic lit.
