As I am typing this we are experiencing a hot one today – 37 degrees! I’m hoping to take a swim in my pool after completing this post. I hope the weather is a bit cooler where you are!
Its been a fairly standard week for me on the reading and reviewing front. Doing things solo household wise (my husband was away last week for work) with two young boys has tired me out a fair bit and my night time reading dropped off. However, looking back on the week that was, somehow I managed to read three books as well as post two reviews. Summer has arrived in W Australia! You’ve read some good books and look like some great ones lined up. I am still wondering whether I will dip my toes into the reading of Cathy Kelly, I think I bought one of hers so will see.

A nice surprise to see a Danielle Steel in your book collection, I thoroughly enjoy reading her works. Don’t freak out Amanda, but I have 25 unread books of hers on my bookshelf! I want to read some pretty badly but I still have those 50 I need to get through first. Summertime is spent having barbie’s and playing board games or playing pool so my reading takes a bit of a backseat which I’m not always happy about but I do take advantage of reading when hubby is at work. Thank goodness he’s not retired yet!
I have a Jojo Moyes book on my shelf called Night Music.
I Googled Peter Watts and I see that his books run in a series so will not add this to my list at the moment but I am curious about his books so will look forward to your review.
I also have about ten Cathy Kelly books on my TBR shelf – love her books.
The Florentine Bridge sounds like my cup of tea.
I’ve seen Alice Hoffman books around everywhere, have no idea what she writes though. I won’t Google her I’ll wait for your review.
Still gobsmacked that you’re able to read so many books in a week while looking after your two little cuties. I think I’m doing something wrong. Lol
37 degrees sounds like a heatwave, hope you enjoyed cooling off in your pool.

I don’t have a favourite cookbook – I just enjoy collecting cookbooks by well-known personalities. I have one by Tana Ramsey which looks interesting and two by Curtis Stone and Ben O’Donoghue. I’ve got my eye on the Gwyneth Paltrow one, if it’s still around in the shops after Christmas I might buy it. I think I’m a pretty good cook but I don’t like cooking, takes too much time away from reading!
I thought I had read The Soldier’s Wife but I’m confusing it with The Railwayman’s Wife by Ashley Hay. Loved it, it was beautifully written.

Danielle Steel – I’m glad I suprised you! I only have about 4 unread books of hers that I have collected and are sitting on my shelves. Wow 25 is alot to get through of one author! Are they old or newish Danielle Steel books? Mine are all this years/last years releases.
Loved hearing about your summer pursuits. We used to have a pool table, they are fun for get togethers and bbq’s. I love the summer season for catching up. Some close friends of ours are starting up a bbq club this summer. The first one kicks off this Friday night, it should be fun. I do hope you manage to sneak in some reading while hubby is at work. How is the pile of 50 books going and how do you choose what to read next? Sorry to hear no huge dents have magically appeared!
Your Jojo Moyes book sounds interesting. I haven’t read Night Music. You will have to do a review once you get to it. Ship of Brides was not her best. I still love Me Before You and The Girl You Left Behind.
I started reading the Peter Watts book but I found it too heavy for me at the moment. I did something I very rarely do and I put it aside for now (not abandon completely). I’m hoping to get through his series but may leave it now to the school hols which are just around the corner anyway. I will let you know via a review how I go.
Ten Cathy Kelly books – you must be a fan. Do you have a favourite? I’ve almost finished the new one. I should have a review up soon. I’m hoping to return it to my friend tonight we are going to see Matthew Reilly together at an author event.
I’m looking forward to the Florentine Bridge and Vanessa the author has been so lovely to connect with.
Like you I have seen lots of Alice Hoffman books around. Many of the book bloggers I connect with on this Monday post have read and reviewed it highly so I thought I would give it a go. It’s my first try at her writing. I’ll post a review when I get around to reading it.
The 37 degree day was a one off! Back to low 20’s the rest of the week. Hasn’t stopped my boys still wanting a swim. It lovely to have your own pool, especially with kids. On my reading rate, I read solidly from about 7 until 10pm. I have found the more I read the faster I get! I don’t watch any TV either so reading takes preference. This weekend I also got some kid free time to enjoy reading as my MIL took the boys for a sleepover. That’s my tricks for getting through so many books!
On your cookbooks – that’s quite a collection. I hope you get a copy of the Gwenyth Paltrow one for/after xmas, I will have to check it out in the shops. The Surfing the Menu/Curtis Stone ones are great, we have a couple. I agree cooking is fun but I find it takes away reading/reviewing time! I just did a big bake this morning for my son’s lunch box fillers.
I love Pamela Hart. The Soldier’s Wife and The War Bride were great. I’ve recently finished compiling my review for The War Bride, I should be due to post my review on the blog soon.
I read The Railwayman’s Wife by Ashley Hay but it was a bit slow for me by memory. It did have a lovely cover though.
